Gas Supply on Currigee

Dear Residents

We continue to seek a solution to our gas supply problem.  The timing and result of the State election has not helped the situation at all.  Although Verity Barton did win the seat of Broadwater, her colleagues did not win enough of theirs!  Consequently, her ability to assist us is somewhat diminished – to say the least.

(The meeting Verity was scheduled to have with Cameron Caldwell of City of Gold Coast Council on January 5 to discuss our plight never occurred as the election was called a day or so before!) .

On the flip side, Anna Palaszczuk is on record as saying that  “that there would be “no development … pure and simple” on Wavebreak Island”   – see http://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/news/asf-consortium-willing-to-make-changes-to-save-wavebreak-island-cruise-ship-development/story-fnj94j0t-1227216776543

On a positive front, I have been referred to a wholesaler who has expressed interest in supplying the Currigee community. This will still require support from the Gold Coast Council and that are having some preliminary discussions.  To assist their investigations, they would like to get an idea of the number of gas appliances that are in the Currigee community – not the number of houses connected to gas, but the actual number of appliances.

Therefore to assist this process, grateful if you could take about 30 seconds and fill in and submit the attached survey.  There are no promises this will work, but it is worth the effort.

Election Message from Save Our Broadwater

Almost 11,500 people have now signed our community petition against the ASF Broadwater development – a fantastic effort & people just keep signing.

But the Newman Government is still not listening & this very tough fight goes on. This Saturday, they face the people and projections show the election will be very close despite their unprecedented majority.

Save Our Broadwater is not a political group. But this election, we are urging all our supporters to save our Broadwater FIRST.

And this means number every square – and PUT LNP LAST.

“…pollies will come & go, but our Broadwater is forever…”

The Newman Government promised to give us their position by 2014 end. Yet just a few days after our 3000+ person rally, they broke that promise. LNP candidates failed to attend the ‘Tell the Truth’ community meeting and they failed to show for the local ABC radio Broadwater candidate session. They have gone quiet on this issue.

“Draw from that what you will” remarked local ABC commentator Nicole Dyer.

We strongly believe that the LNP will green light the ASF mega development straight after the election.

The Newman Government must be stopped.

The Broadwater is our legacy to future generations. It is our free, open central park and magnificent waterways – right in the heart of our city. But if the Newman Government is returned without a “strong” electoral rebuke, then our Broadwater and community faces social, economic and environmental destruction courtesy of the ASF mega casino city.

Use your vote to send Newman a message. Journalists are telling us that the Broadwater is THE issue on the Gold Coast this election. This is testament to the incredible hard work of our volunteers & supporters.

YOU can act & help us again – please. We need you to help us drive our campaign home to Mr Newman, right where it hurts.

  1. Volunteer to help out on polling booths this Saturday. Stand with our fab placards, hand out our flyers, and chat with local voters. It’s easy & fun! Just email us at info@saveourbroadwater.com to join the team!
  2. Use your vote to put LNP last – To use your preferences to save our broadwater, you must number every box.
  3. Share our petition again & send the pollies our auto email: www.saveourbroadwatercom/how-to-help
  4. Donate to help us fund our community campaign: wwww.saveourbroadwater.com

Please HELP us tell them “NO Newman NO!”

IF we do not win this, our Broadwater faces 6.25 million cubic metres of dredging, Wave Break island will be tripled in size, over 30 highrises of 5-50 storeys will be built & 20,000 people move in. Our Broadwater will be environmentally damaged and critical habitats of internationally protected seabirds and significant megafauna like dugongs, dolphins & green turtles will be destroyed. All for a development expressly for “the Chinese market”.

OR we can all act now & our Broadwater can be saved.

We hope to see you on the booths Saturday and as ever, thank you so much for loving our Broadwater too 🙂

Best regards,

Save Our Broadwater team

Council Wheelie Bin Audit

Currigee Residents

I am hoping that you can help us out. We have been requested by Council to record the condition of all the Council bins as well as their serial numbers. If you are on the island at the moment, or will be on the island over the next few weeks, would you be able to give us a call or send us an email with all the serial numbers of all the Council bins that you have, and also if they are in good condition, or if they have damaged or missing lids, slits in the body, damaged or missing wheels, or anything like that. We email you a spreadsheet for you to record this information for us, so if you could just email us, then fill it out in your section and email it back to us, it would be most appreciated.

We will of course be recording all this information on each run that we do over the coming weeks, but we understand that you may not have all your bins out each time, or you may not even be on the island to put the bins out between now and when we have to have all this data collected. We’ve been given a dead line of February 14.

If you could do this for us, at your earliest convenience, it would be most appreciated.

We may not have everyone’s current email addresses, and also if any property has changed hands recently, we may be out of touch with this, so if you are aware that any of this information is out of date, could you please let us know and give us the correct names and email addresses if anyone has them, that would be great. Maybe Joan might be able to let us know if anything is incorrect.

For those of you who have let out your property to tenants, or have visitors in your property, if you could get this spreadsheet to them, and ask them to assist us with this task, it would be appreciated.

If you can not be at your property between now and our deadline in February, and you are unable to get someone to check this information for you, would you be able to let us know of this, so we can try to make some other arrangements to get this information.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation, we wish you a very happy and safe Summer Season.

Kind regards
Steve and Helen Bisset
