Passing of Beth Wilson
Dear Residents,
Our Currigee community will be further saddened to learn that Beth Wilson passed away at her home in Ascot this morning. She and Blair build their home on the island more than 50 years ago and over this period thousands of guests have been warmly welcomed by Wilson hospitality. As was her custom every year, Beth spent this past Christmas and New Year at the island, and was present at the awards ceremony on New Year’s Day to proudly accept the Currigee Cup! She left the island only last Friday. Our best wishes to the Wilson Clan in the loss of this extraordinary person
Kind regards,
The Committee
Passing of Charles Roe
Dear Residents,
Our community will be sad to learn that Currigee resident Dr Charles Roe passed away on Tuesday afternoon (15/01/19). He had been suffering from a short illness and was moved to a mainland hospital. Charles’ life was intertwined with his experiences at Currigee many of which were captured in his book. He has lived at the island permanently for many years, right up until recent weeks. Charles was due to celebrate his 100th Birthday on February 14th.
Our thoughts are with Charles’ family and friends at this time.
Kind regards,
The Committee

GCCC Garbage Skip Bins Update
Dear Residents,
We have been advised by the Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) that there has again been evidence of significant Builders rubble in the skip bins at the Currigee Waste Transfer Station as shown in the attached photo below. The GCCC has asked the Committee to remind the residents that builder’s rubble is prohibited in the bins and it is the responsibility of the Builder to organise the removal of their waste.
The current waste collections contract is set to expire in 2020 and the GCCC will review the waste services provided on South Stradbroke Island at that time. It is important for us as residents to abide by the rules of the Waste Transfer Station to ensure we continue to receive this very important service for all residents.
Kind regards,
The Committee
