Currigee Resident Passing

Dear Currigee Residents

We have received the following note from Roger Croker advising if the passing of his father Meyrick.

“We have had some sad news yesterday with the passing of our beloved Dad Meyrick. It is very sudden as he was admitted to hospital Friday as he had been feeling unwell. His heart valve failed (had been replaced 20 years ago). We were able to have a WhatsApp video call with him around 230 am and he then passed away an hour later. Dad was a fabulous man and a wonderful father, grandfather and husband. He was always wonderfully positive and generous. He will be desperately missed. We are all taking comfort in a great, long life well lived.”

The thoughts of the Currigee Community are with the Croker family at this time

Kind regards,

The Committee

Currigee Fire Risk Plan and Prevention

Dear Currigee Residents,

Post the AGM on December 27 2019, the South Stradbroke Island Residents Committee has been in discussion with the Wasp Creek Rural Fire Brigade, the Gold Coast City Council and the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Authority about what our Residents can do to lower the fire risk to our community.

The Committee provides the following update to be distributed to all Currigee Residents;

Wasp Creek Rural Fire Brigade Currigee Community Get Together – Saturday 25th January 12pm

Wasp Creek RFB volunteer fire fighters are dedicated to the protection of the island. Wasp Creek RFB would like residents on South Stradbroke island to work with them to reduce the fire risk on the Island.

On Saturday 25th January at midday, the Wasp Creek RFB will hold a Currigee Community Get Together in front of Ozzie’s place (Lot B14, where we had the AGM). Wasp Creek RFB members will bring the Fire Truck down to Currigee and show us how things work and also answer any questions about Wasp Creek Rural Fire Brigade membership as well as any concerns residents have.

We have attached advice from Wasp Creek RFB – PLEASE READ.

For further information you can make contact on waspcrk@bigpond.com.au.  Report all fires to 000. Residents can also follow the Wasp Creek RFB Facebook page.

Gold Coast City Council & Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service

GCCC and the QPWS are working with Wasp Creek RFB to manage the fire risk on the island. This will include both widening fire breaks and hazard reduce burns on South Stradbroke Island in 2020 when conditions permit. The Committee has asked the GCCC and QPWS to keep Currigee Residents informed.

The GCCC also hopes to visit Currigee properties to identify properties that present a fire risk and advise residents accordingly.

Currigee Residents

Following the advice we have received, the Committee asks all residents to;

–         Be prepared. Be ready to Act. Have an Escape plan in place. Report all fires to 000.

–          Consider joining the Wasp Creek RFB. More information will follow post the Community Get Together on January 25th.

–          Keep your property clear. Per the Wasp Creek RFB; ‘Properties that are left overgrown or have drums of fuel stored close to and around their homes are an added fire risk to life and property to all who live or own property on the Island. Everyone visiting can assist, we ask all families visiting to take time on each visit to the island to clear their property of any overgrown undergrowth and to prune overhanging trees from their roofs and clear gutters.’

–          If your property has a spear pump please keep the area around it clear and make sure it is in good working order. Signage will assist the quick location of spear pump for the Wasp Creek RFB.

Kind regards,

The Committee

Open House Clearance

Open House Clearance
25th September 2019
Group B, Lot 20
We are having a pre-sale house clearance on Wednesday 25th September, as we’d prefer residents to claim any items that may be of use, before disposing of them.
There are all manner of things available, and it will all be laid out for you to pick and choose at your leisure.
It’s looking like it may be a wet day, so a good activity for a non-beach day.
The house will be open all day, and there may be a sausage and beverage available if you’re there at the right time.
No need to bring any cash!
Regards
Andrew Stewart
