Gas Update March 16

Currigee Gas Update
The Residents committee has been investigating the supply of 45 litre LPG gas to our resident community since supply ceased at the end of 2014. There have been many discussions with Gold Coast City Council, State Government, Couran Cove residents, Tipplers, Island operators and potential suppliers. We have looked at storage options, shared facilities and council involvement. Suppliers are not particularly interested in servicing Currigee.

It appears that the only solution going forward will be to engage a supplier and providing the barge transport for them which will be an additional cost.

It is important to note at this stage that with changes in regulations and codes in 2015, many residents need to upgrade their gas fittings to be compliant. Upgrades must be done by a qualified gas fitter before the new supplier can supply to you.

Please find a quote here for all residences which Andrew Stewart has kindly organized.

The gas fitter will be on the island in the next month. We are yet to finalize dates. You will need to authorize via email that you want the work done and also give us details of how to access your residence. Clearly you can commission your own person but you will need a compliance certificate and plate before you can get supply.

We will be in touch again shortly to let you know timing and how to give the service person approval and access details.

Gas Update Jan 20

Currigee Gas Update
As you are no doubt aware, our gas supply issue has yet to be resolved. We have tried a political approach through both the previous and current state governments and have got no worthwhile traction – as much as we wish there was, there is no legislative obligation for any supplier to continue to supply us and hence current government are politely washing their hands of it all. It is just not a vote winning issue at all.

Our only option is to find a commercial solution.

To this end we have investigated every option that we have been able to identify. We are presently discussing one possibility and to assist us in the process I ask that each household complete the attached survey to give us an accurate estimation of our likely demand and the methods to deliver this service.

We will provide more details and background once/if this possibility comes to fruition – in the interim both a quick and honest response from as many households as possible is very important to get an outcome here

GCWA Proposed Channel Extension

Dear Residents,

The Gold Coast Waterways Authority have recently announced a proposed extension to the existing Labrador Channel and to join up with the South Channel.  The new channel, although well south of Currigee, will draw traffic over to the Western side of Crab Island.

Please see the attached image of the proposed changes to the waterways.

We encourage all residents to have their say about the proposed project.  The GCWA have provided a survey to allow for this.  Click here to access the survey

Kind regards,

Labrador Channel

Clean Up Australia Day 2015

Clean Up Australia Day is fast approaching and is our opportunity to make sure that the beach remains in pristine condition.

As in previous years we will be cleaning the beach in conjunction with the residents from Couran Point.

Here are some quick details about the event:

When: Easter Saturday at 2.30pm

Where: Meet at the beach entrance of the Southern Track and work our way North

What to bring: Gloves, garbage bags, vehicle transport if you have it, and as many hands as you can muster!

There will be a BBQ held after the event with the Couran Point residents following the Clean-Up.  A BBQ and cooking utensils will be provided, just bring what you want to eat!

Look forward to seeing you there!
