Dear Residents,
BOAT SPEED LIMITS AT CURRIGEE
The Gold Coast Waterways Authority’s (GCWA) “Speed Limits and Behaviour Management Strategy 2018-2020 is attached. This report supports changes to boat speed limits that are evidence based and achieve an appropriate balance between safety and transport efficiency. It sets out as Priority 1 “Adopt a process to review speed limits and make changes where required”.
South Stradbroke Island Residents are therefore in a good position to request a reduction in the speed limit between the GCCC Campgrounds at North and South Currigee if we can present enough credible evidence, especially with respect to safety.
The GCWA say they “will always be happy to receive enquiries or listen to concerns about speed limits, or speed signs, for a particular area of Gold Coast waterways. These enquiries or concerns can be reported directly to GCWA by telephone on 07 5539 7350 or by email to mail@gcwa.qld.gov.au.”. We believe that it would be preferable that concerns are sent by email and copied to the committee (contact@southstradbroke.com.au or contact@currigeefootprints.com) so that we can collate and quote them when required.
A concern may be framed along the lines of the attached letter – please personalise and if possible include pictures as evidence before sending.
If you have any questions please email the committee at contact@southstradbroke.com.au or contact@currigeefootprints.com
Regards,
The Committee
