Currigee Cup 2019 Results

On New Years Day 2019, the Currigee community came together to participate in the 53rd Currigee Cup; themed Vikings in honour of the courage and heroism we value on the island. Despite the low-tide the large beach area allowed a large number of craft and competitors to gather. Innovations this year included new Senior and Junior Paddle events and the much-welcomed ice-cream boat that came bearing refreshments. The Commodores would like to thank the participants and spectators for their community-minded spirit and enthusiasm on the day. Looking forward to the Currigee Cup 2020, with Commodores Scott Geldard, Nick Christie and Terry McGrath!

Clean Up Australia Day 2018 Recap

On the afternoon of the 1st of April, 2018, families descended upon the surf beach at Currigee. It was so great to see so many residence and their families getting hands on to make a difference to 5km of our stunning surf beach. There were a total of 30 volunteers including 10 children.

As always, there were interesting items collected for disposal such as boat chairs, oars, thongs and hats to name a few. Many small pieces of plastic were also collected, often entangled in the dry seaweed. A total of 23 large collection bags were filled in the one afternoon.

Thank you again to all the volunteers who made a difference to the environment and shared a lovely afternoon of socializing afterwards.

GCCC Garbage Skip Bins Update

Dear Residents,

We have been advised by the Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) that there has again been evidence of significant Builders rubble in the skip bins at the Currigee Waste Transfer Station as shown in the attached photo below. The GCCC has asked the Committee to remind the residents that builder’s rubble is prohibited in the bins and it is the responsibility of the Builder to organise the removal of their waste.

The current waste collections contract is set to expire in 2020 and the GCCC will review the waste services provided on South Stradbroke Island at that time. It is important for us as residents to abide by the rules of the Waste Transfer Station to ensure we continue to receive this very important service for all residents.

Kind regards,

The Committee
